FUTO Resumes Academic Activities May 8, Each Student To Pay N12,500 Fine For Damage of School Properties

The authorities of Federal University of Technology Owerri have released guildline for the resumption and continuation of academic activities for the Harmattan Semester of 2016/2017 Session.

In a press release made available to Ifeanyicy.com and signed by the University Registrar/Secretary to the Senate, Mr. John U. Nnabuihe, the Year One students of the Institution would be expected to return on Monday May 8, 2017.  Year 2&3 students would return two days later (i.e May 10) whereas Year Four and Five would return May 15th,  2017.

According to the release,  each student would be allowed to enter the university premises only on presentation of evidence of payment of the sum of N12,500 being fine levied on the studentry for their misconduct and destruction of school properties in the violent protests that took place in February 2017

In the accreditation for entrance in the university campus, each student would be also required to present an evidence of a notarized undertaking of good behavior

It will be recalled that students of Federal University of Technology Owerri had on Friday February 17, 2017 gone on rampage to protest what they described as extortionist policies of the University management. In the issuing melee,  properties worth millions of Naira belonging to the University were looted and in some cases destroyed prompting the school Vice Chancellor, Professor Francis Chukwuemeka Eze to announce indefinite halting of academic activities and subsequent arrests of some student unionists who we understand are now at the verge of being rusticated.
