Still basking in the euphoria of the validation of his electoral mandate by the Abuja division of the Court of Appeal, distinguished Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, has commended the Nigerian Judiciary for their tenacity in strongly upholding the tenets and course of justice in the country without any fear or favour.
Addressing his supporters who trooped out in their numbers to receive him at Chief Sam Mbakwe Airport in Imo state on friday, the Imo north Senator described the Appeal court judgment which went in his favour as an overwhelming victory for democracy and rule of law in the country.
He praised the Court of Appeal for affirming the mandate that the majority of Ndi Okigwe gave to him and the All Progressive Congress( APC), adding that the court resolved all reliefs sort by the petitioner meritoriously.
He said:'We have always known that an election petition matter is not an Eke Ikpa or Orieagu story where anybody can say whatever he likes; an aggrieved party should approach the court with facts; He argued. On Athan Achonu's latest outburst and allegations on a National Television, Uwajumogu described it as unfortunate, stressing that the Court of Appeal was right in dismissing the matter since he could not even prove that he won the 23rd elections or the supplementary elections of 28th July.
Uwajumogu concluded amidst songs and dance by supporters and party faithfuls who followed him to his country home, Isinweke, Umuihi, Ihitte-Uboma local government area for celebrations, 'the favourable judgment is a big boost that would spur APC to go for the next election as the party to beat".
He also sympathized with Chief Athan Achonu, and advised him to give peace a chance and join hands with him to move Okigwe forward.
Senator Uwajumogu, while dedicating the victory to the people of Okigwe zone, maintained that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the country's judiciary have further rekindled the total confidence of the people of Imo north senatorial district in the affirmation that indeed, change has come to Nigeria.
He showered encomiums on the people of Okigwe zone for their unwavering support throughout the period the legal tussle lasted and declared that the final adjudication of the matter has formerly kick-started the task of building Okigwe zone in line with the ideals of its founding fathers.
