Catholic bishops, priests and faithful in Imo State on Tuesday embarked on a procession along major streets in Owerri , the state capital , to demand the disclosure of those that killed two of their colleagues in Benue State.
They insisted that the culprits must be made to face the full wrath of the law .
The Catholics , who processed from Maria Assumpta on Wetheral Road and terminated at Assumpta Catholic Diocese at the Control Post junction, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to protect the citizenry .
The Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese , Rev . A .J . Obinna, who addressed journalists at the diocesan headquarters in Owerri during the protest , described the killing of the two Catholic priests in Benue state by suspected Fulani herdsmen as very provocative .
The crowd, which consisted Catholic bishops , priests, men , women, youths and children , drawn from the dioceses in state , caused major gridlock within the metropolis.
Carrying various placards which depicted their anger , the Catholic faithful alleged that Christians had been marked for cleansing.
He said, “We are having killings which do not show that we have left the military era . There have been inter -tribal marriages in Nigeria and the people have lived in harmony until the rampaging herdsmen made cohabitation an issue , ” he said .
He urged President Buhari to rise up to his responsibility of ensuring the protection of lives and properties of the citizenries.
