The National President of the Alumni Association of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Bolaji Oladeji, has praised the Federal Government's decision to convert the institution into a federal university, calling it a welcome development.
In a statement on Monday, the alumni association expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the transition would accelerate the university's growth.
“As key stakeholders committed to the advancement of TASUED, we embrace this development with high expectations, particularly in terms of infrastructure, staff welfare, research funding, and global recognition,” Oladeji said.
Similarly, the Vice President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Inter-Campus Affairs, Akinbodunse Praise, commended the Federal Government for recognizing the significance of TASUED as the country’s first university of education. He emphasized that this move underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the education sector.
Praise also acknowledged Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for maintaining the institution despite past efforts to shut it down. Reflecting on student struggles to save TASUED from being scrapped in 2012, he recalled the sacrifices made by students and the significance of the decision to elevate the university.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, and other stakeholders who played a role in preserving TASUED.
He assured that the student community would continue supporting the Federal Government in its efforts to enhance education in Nigeria.
The Federal Government officially announced the adoption of TASUED as a federal university on Sunday through a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
